Location

rigg & Sons farm is located near the town of Quincy, in the Black Sands area of the Great Columbia Basin in Central Washington. This area of Washington is blessed with a rich volcanic soil and an ideal growing season. Long, warm days and crisp, cool nights combine to create a fertile climate that is capable of growing an impressive list of agricultural products. Onions, tree fruit, grapes (wine and juice), corn, potatoes, mint and hay, as well as livestock, all are grown in abundance.

Rainfall is typically only 8" per year, so irrigation is critical for most crops. The water that feeds the Columbia Basin comes from the Columbia River and the great Grand Coulee Dam. An impressive series of canals and waterways brings the water to the farms. The engineering that created this system is a true marvel, bringing life and prosperity to an otherwise desolate region.

Quincy's close proximity to the Seattle/Tacoma area and it's strong Pacific Rim shipping options, make export markets a natural destination for a good deal of the region's produce. With the improvements in the containerized and controlled atmosphere shipping, this trend will surely continue. At Grigg & Sons we see the international export market as our next area of opportunity.
